Full-Time Electrical Engineer

Job Description

Purpose of the Job

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for supporting the Train Electrical Engineer by delivering high performance engineering solutions within agreed timelines and broad company objectives. In this role you are responsible for supporting the Train Electrical Engineer with deliverables on projects such as overhauls. You will provide technical deliverables, and schedule updates on deliverables. You will report progress to the Train Electrical Engineer, project team and the external customer.

  • You will provide carry-over analysis on electrical products, by defining material that will be retained and material that will be removed as part of the overhaul project.
  • You are able to read, analyze and design electrical schematics. You should be comfortable with learning to use design tools such as Zuken E3S or AutoCAD electrical to review their development. You also support with internal and external design reviews with the customer.
  • You will work with Train Electrical engineer, Train Control, and System engineers to ensure electrical requirements (i.e. relay based logic) and systems interfaces are adequately integrated. You support the Mechanical Design team for cable routing and cable harness drawings development, including the definition of component part numbers for wiring, relays, circuit breakers, terminal boards, or connectors.
  • You will support the Train System Engineer on design optimizations, risk mitigations and contribute to reliability, maintainability, and safety analysis to ensure a fully integrated, safe & compliant design. You liaise with other engineers and experts to ensure compliance with the appropriate Industry Standards.

 

Ultimately you with supporting the Train Electrical engineer to deliver the global performance of the Train Electrical design. You support the test team with train-level validation, but also the Production Line, Procurement and Quality teams.

 

Responsibilities

  • Accountable for supporting with definition of all train electrical deliverables including schematics, primarily for overhaul projects
  • Providing inputs to Schematic Design engineers for the development of vehicle schematics
  • Support in definition of electrical interfaces with Train Control and/or System engineers to ensure electrical functions and systems are adequately integrated
  • Supporting the Mechanical Design team for cable routing and cable harness drawings development, as well as the Industrial Engineering team for manufacturing aspects
  • Support in ensuring the train electrical design is compliant with applicable standards for reliability, safety, maintainability and customer requirements
  • Providing support to the Production Line, Testing, Procurement and Quality teams
  • Challenging project peers while improving processes and proposing optimizations. Promoting continuous improvement initiatives
  • Travel of up to 10% may be required to support business meetings, Production Line support, or validation and test activities.

 

Performance measurements:

  • In this role, you are expected to support the Train Electrical engineer while building effective working relationships across a diverse engineering team, with the ultimate goal of delivering complex and innovative solutions that meet our customer needs.
  • The Electrical Engineer supports Train Electrical engineer to ensures adequate and effective solutions are defined and is accountable for overall electrical development. The Train Electrical Engineer also ensures deliverables are provided in line with schedule and financial aspects.
  • You are versatile, very autonomous with hands-on experience and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment.

 

Requirements:

  • 7/10 years of experiences on Project/Bid Management background (costing, planning & risk management)
  • Successful experience on several bids within Alstom.
  • 5 years of experience in Electrical Engineering
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or equivalent combination of training

 

Desirable:

  • P.Eng in Ontario preferred

 

Competencies & Skills

  • Experience with general electrical design (schematics, harnesses, …)
  • Knowledge of Zuken E3 or AutoCad Electrical or willingness to obtain knowledge
  • Knowledge of schematic development
